Technical Specifications

The ALFATERNA steam peeler consists of:
  • An elevator with buckets constructed of stainless steel AISI 304, with a stainless steel tubular frame, to feed the tomato into the first inlet star valve. The elevator is synchronized to the inlet star valve via a transmission chain. The elevator contains stainless steel slats and shaped sides.
  • A product inlet star inlet valve, powered by a variable speed motor unit with inverter, mounted on the body of the inlet valve. The bronze sealing bars can be easily removed for inspection by unscrewing a side-cap without having to remove the entire cover. The mechanical seals on the chrome-plated shafts are of carbon/graphite type with compression spring. The valve is made of a cylinder on which surface (only on one side) there are two flanged connections for steam recovery exiting from steam section. This steam is directed to a small recovery drum (mounted on the lower part of the structure of the machine) and connected with stainless steel piping. The sealing discs on each side of the valve are in stainless steel and are tightened to the body of the valve. On the surface of the discs of the valve there are a series of threaded openings with bronze caps to hold the side seals. As well, there is a connection on each disc for condensation discharge.
  • A stainless steel auger system, used to advance the product through the direct steam scalding section. The auger is powered by a variable speed motor unit with inverter attached to the cylindrical body of the auger. The cylinder is made of stainless steel and has been tested to a pressure of 2 bar (ISPESL standard). The sealing discs on each side are in stainless steel and are tightened to the body of the cylinder. The mechanical seals on the chrome-plated shafts are of carbon/graphite type with compression spring. On the upper surface of the steam chamber there are three connections for the inlet steam piping, while on the lower surface (near product entry) there is a connection for the auger wash. This stainless steel connection is linked to the steam connection on the star valve with a ball-type valve. The steam inlet piping is fitted with a bypass for three (3) flow valves of equal diameter and a pneumatic regulatory valve type air-open, which bears a "Y" filter of the same diameter. The steam pipe is also fitted with a safety valve certified ISPESL, mounted at the end of the pipe itself. This valve is fitted with an ISPESL certificate of calibration issued by the valve manufacturer.
  • An intermediate star valve, powered by a 4.0 KW fixed gear motor for the transport of tomatoes from the steam scalding section to the vacuum section. The technical specifications are identical to those describing the first inlet star valve.
  • A circulating product auger under vacuum, powered by a variable speed motor with inverter. The side chamber plate (on the motor assembly side) and opposite curved bottom of cylinder are in stainless steel. The side plate containing the motor assembly is sealed with galvanized steel screws to the steam chamber, while the opposite curved bottom is welded to the chamber. On the upper part of the chamber are two attachments for the vacuum piping. These attachments are connected to the condenser with a ball valve containing connection.
  • A star valve for product discharge powered by a variable speed motor for the movement (discharge) of product from the vacuum chamber to the “pre-pinch” bed. The technical specifications are identical to those describing the first inlet star valve.
  • A vacuum-generating systemconsisting of a stainless steel condenser (internal stainless steel tube nest). The vacuum piping from the peeler vacuum chamber is in stainless steel, as is the piping that draws the vacuum to the vacuum pump. Vacuum is guaranteed form one or two high capacity liquid ring pumps.
  • A stainless steel tank for the collection of the condensate is mounted on the lower part of the frame. It is constructed of stainless steel with rounded ends.
  • A stainless steel tubular support frame (150x150x5). The flooring is constructed with rigged sheeting, while the handrails/stair rails are constructed of tubular. The ALFATERNA peeler is nestled in two inclined “U” constructed of stainless steel harnesses welded to the top surface of the steam chamber. Access to the second level is provided by a stainless steel vertical ladder with side protectors.
  • A "pre-pinch" bed with aluminum knurled rollers, powered by a variable motor. The bed is also constructed of stainless steel tubular frame, as well as stainless steel product deflectors and any stainless steel hopper for waste. Roller rotational motion is provided through a vulcanized rubber belt mounted under the roller proper, and the rotation is guaranteed by friction.
